The Reynettes

So I've been trying to figure out this song since I heard in a while while while ago, and then again in a taxi in 9th grade... and I finally figured it out! Kowloon, Hong Kong by the Reynettes:

and if you'd just happen to like to sing k along to it...

and for an epic space guns version of the song...

So this song got me into checking up on the English pop that circulated the city back in the 50s-70s. It's interesting though, if you check out the karaoke video, the chick in it is white, its interesting to really see the amount of change the city has gone though in the last 13 years, in terms of demographics and such. I guess seeing a white chick in an HK karaoke video today would be a little unusual, but back then, although I don't remember paying attention to this sort of thing as a kid, guess it wasn't that unusual.

Figuring out this song FINALLY, has kind of sparked an interest in old HK English pop music...I think when I get back home there is going to be a day spent at Collectables sifting through vinyls to see what I can find. I wonder if they have any Shanghai Jazz stuff too... I'm so stoked!

On other things... I've been done school for a few days now. Hand time to check out a Hands of the Few show, some chillin, bake some cake... and now my room is pretty near being all packed up. It is SO scary to think that the year has come to a close. Have to say I think I am going to miss parts of being in Toronto. Guess that is a good thing for going back in September.

Oh! And tomorrow is Baskin & Robbins 31cent scoop day! Hittin that up with Pam and Luigi!
